I will be spending three weeks in Malindi, Kenya (on the east coast) and in surrounding neighborhoods working with a medical team in hospitals and clinics. I will use this blog to update you with day to day happenings and to share the incredible experiences I am sure I will encounter-- Enjoy!

orphanage
Today we spent the day at an orphanage made specifically for children with sick parents or who had been abandoned after both parents had died. These kids were incredible. So full of life despite their situations and just so happy and thankful to see us and be with us. I played soccer for the majority of our time there which was very surprising to the boys cause girls normally didn't play sports. These little kids were so skilled and definitely showed me up. What surprised me though was how honest they were. If anyone made a foul or kicked the ball out of bounds they all recognized it and altered the game appropriately. After I scored (big surprise, i know) I immediately gained their respect and they even chose me to take a penalty shot. They called me 'lefty' cause they also realized that I kicked the ball with my left foot, a pretty astute observation. I really enjoyed the time there and I definitely felt good leaving, sure that i had positively impacted their lives, even if it was for a short while.
